These Products are EWG Verified and Approved: What Does That Mean?

If you've never shopped for EWG Verified products, you may be wondering what this designation means. In short, the EWG Verified mark means that a product meets the strict criteria set out by the Environmental Working Group for that organization to certify and approve a product to meet its standards. When you see this mark, you can trust a product has met the following criteria:
- A product with an EWG Verified mark does not contain any ingredients on the EWG's “Unacceptable” list. This list contains substances known or suspected to cause harm to human health or the environment. So you can be confident these products are free from potentially harmful ingredients.
- A product with the EWG Verified mark must meet the organization's standards for ingredient disclosure on the label. This means that the manufacturer must provide full transparency about all of the ingredients used to formulate their product.
- A company must follow best practices for manufacturing to ensure the highest quality and safety levels.

What is the Environmental Working Group?

The Environmental Working Group is an organization that has been tracking chemical safety and advocating for better regulation of harmful substances for over 25 years. Through the EWG's extensive research and work, they have become a trusted consumer resource for product ingredient transparency.
Unfortunately, there are many products available on the market that contain harmful chemicals that have been linked to various health products. Furthermore, manufacturers aren't always required to list these ingredients on their packaging or websites. This makes it difficult for consumers to find products they can feel confident buying.
Thanks to EWG, consumers can now identify the products that leave out bad chemicals and the companies that avoid them (and vice versa.)
